Radon Mitigation in York Township
York Township is the suburban and farm ground south of York city, including Leaders Heights. It is not the city, and it is not York Township in some other state.
Houses in York Township
Leaders Heights and the Susquehanna Trail are mid-century brick ranches, split-levels, and later colonials, most of them on full basements. Older farmhouses closer to the township line still have stone or early block cellars. A finished rec room with a sump in the corner is the layout we open most. Slabs exist, and they are a different suction plan than a basement with a French drain.
The York Valley is Piedmont carbonate rock and shale. Limestone fractures and shale carry uranium, which is why York County is on the EPA’s highest radon-potential zone. Soil gas does not stop at the city line. A township ranch on a slab-and-basement mix can test high while the neighbor’s number is ordinary, because the crack and the sump decide the path, not the ZIP code.
What the visit is usually about
Testing comes before any pipe. A Leaders Heights basement with an open sump is usually a sub-slab or drain-tile suction job, then a retest. Read sub-slab depressurization for the pipe, and radon testing if you only have a number from a mailer kit. The city page stays York city.
York Township is a different office from the City of York. A fan circuit often needs an electrical permit even when the pipe itself is simple. The municipality says which permit applies. EPA radon guidance is the homeowner explanation of why the fan runs continuously. EPA zone map is where York County’s Zone 1 designation comes from. We do not print a certification number on this page.
