Radon Mitigation in West York Borough
West York is a borough on the west side of the city, with small lots and older houses. It is not West Manchester Township. Basements are tight, and the pipe has to clear nearby windows.
Houses in West York Borough
Borough blocks are brick twins and singles, many with basements that share a party wall and a narrow side yard. The basement is a laundry and a utility room more often than a suite. Ceiling height is low. A radon pipe has to stay out of the only walkway. Fans outdoors need a sidewall that is not two feet from the neighbor’s window. That constraint shows up on the first visit, not in a catalog drawing.
The borough is on valley limestone and shale, EPA Zone 1, the same band as the city it touches. Attached houses do not “share” a radon level in a way you can borrow. Each foundation has its own cracks and its own sump. A low test next door is not a test of your slab. Closed-house conditions still apply, which is harder when people assume a drafty older house is already ventilated.
What the visit is usually about
Party-wall houses need a quieter routing conversation. Sub-slab depressurization is still the usual system when a slab exists. Testing belongs in the basement even if you rarely go down there, if that is the lowest level someone uses. West Manchester is the township page.
West York Borough permits are not West Manchester Township permits. On these lots the electrical permit and the window-clearance rule are the two checks. EPA radon guidance states the clearance idea in homeowner language. We will not put a fan where it dumps into a bedroom window to save a permit trip.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions we hear on York County jobs.
Will a system in a twin affect the neighbor?
The fan has to be placed so the exhaust does not enter their windows. The suction is under your slab, not theirs. We look at both foundations only to place the pipe. We do not mitigate the neighbor’s house as part of your job.
